VanSolarCalc is written and maintained by Frank Zale, who built his own camper van from scratch. Messages come straight to him, and corrections are genuinely welcome. If a number here looks wrong, saying so is a favour, not a complaint.

Email hello@vansolarcalc.com. Expect a reply within a few days. There is no contact form, because a form would collect your details for no reason when an email does the same job.

Reporting a correction

This is the message type that gets answered first. Every figure on this site comes from a documented formula, so a wrong answer means either the formula is wrong or it was applied wrongly, and both are worth fixing quickly.

To make that fast, include:

  • The page you were on, and the exact inputs you entered.
  • The number the tool gave you.
  • The number you expected, and where that figure comes from.

The last one matters most. Sizing standards genuinely disagree with each other, and knowing whether you are working from ABYC, NEC, or a manufacturer datasheet usually explains the difference on its own. Confirmed corrections are fixed and recorded in the site's changelog.

Other good reasons to write

  • A feature request. A van type, region, appliance, or calculation the tool does not yet cover. Requests that come with a real build behind them tend to get built.
  • Embedding the calculator. It is free to put on your own site. The embed page has the snippet and sizing notes; write if it does not fit your layout.
  • Working together. Installers, converters, and component makers are welcome to get in touch.

What this site cannot do for you

It cannot design or certify your specific build, and it cannot take responsibility for wiring you install. A van electrical system runs high DC current through a moving vehicle, where a loose lug or an undersized cable causes a fire rather than an inconvenience. The tool exists to get your numbers right before you spend money, not to replace someone qualified checking the installation.

For anything ambiguous, have a qualified installer review the plan. Use the calculator to produce the figures, and the pre-purchase checklist to sanity check them before you buy anything.

Privacy

Emails are used only to answer the message. No mailing list, no forwarding, no selling of addresses. The privacy policy covers what the site itself collects, which is very little.
